Government Investigations and Defense
Will helps clients under investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice, state Attorney General’s Offices, the FBI, the DEA, the IRS, the SEC, and the FTC, among other agencies. He has experience advising clients to comply with the rules of the investigations, making smart strategic decisions, negotiating good outcomes, and defending clients against unfounded charges.
Will fights hard for clients, diligently researching possible legal challenges, while also giving clients the benefit of his years of experience with government investigations. While many lawyers in the field promote their experience in government or as a former prosecutor, Will uses his training as a litigator to know how to negotiate, when court challenges are likely to succeed, and how to make those challenges as effective as possible.
In his work, he has:
Persuaded the U.S. Attorney’s Office to dismiss a criminal charge alleging illegal distribution of controlled substances.
Persuaded a court over Department of Justice objections to release a client from custody after his arrest at an airport for wire fraud.
Persuaded state prosecutors not to seek prison time for a client prosecuted for embezzlement.
Persuaded a court to sentence a client for two years less than what the U.S. Attorney’s Office recommended following conviction for tax fraud.
Persuaded a court to sentence a client to probation after the U.S. Attorney’s Office recommended a year in prison following conviction for theft of government funds.
Persuaded a DEA Chief Administrative Law Judge to deny summary disposition in a proceeding to revoke a doctor’s authority to handle controlled substances.
Persuaded the FTC not to impose any fines or penalties on a client accused of violating debt collection regulations.
Will handles many kinds of investigations. He is especially proud of his record with:
